Verified Purchase. I read the entire book, highlighted, completed the quiz, and used the app. I passed on the first take. Highly recommend. One person found this helpful. It's a great tool for learning. I found this very helpful for studying for the LCSW. I hadn't taken a standardized test like this for many years and was extremely intimated. Making flash cards from this book and taking the practice exams really helped. I found the study materials harder than the actual test. I passed the exam first try and I've given this book to other colleagues who want to get their license. Personally found the ASWB practice test available on the ASWB website itself most useful and best reference for the type of questions to be expected on the actual test. This books goes over the theories and developing life span of life. But be prepared that the LSW exam does not ask direct questions like you think. Be prepared for questions that want you to answer what you would do next or what is the best answer.
The books prepared you for definitions, but not for the majority of the exam. This book has good overall information, but if you're looking for practice exams, this is not the book for you. The book practice exam, and digital practice exam, AND the digital practice questions, are all the exact same questions. It took me too long to realize this because I wanted to do them all separately and spaced out so as to get variety in studying. After doing the practice questions twice very very spaced out so I would not remember them , I went to take the digital practice exam and found myself having memorized the questions instead of actually being tested of my knowledge.
Went to do the book one instead, and it was the same thing. Very frustrating. I bought this book mainly for the online study aspect of it along with the full length practice exam it included. I had taken all the classes and done all the study questions and got the the full length exam portion when I realized the exam is just all the questions repeated in a single sitting. COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY! You basically will fly through the exam because you will remember all the answers to the practice questions you did because they are exactly the same. Im very disappointed as I wanted to use the full test to gauge my readiness but it was pointless. The content of this book isn't bad but if you want to use the full practice exam to see where you're at don't buy it, or at least take the exam first before ding the study questions.
If I knew what I knew now I wouldn't have bought it. Don’t buy. This book started on page 27!! Then it repeats with pages in another section of the book and there are no pages anywhere! Very disappointed as I took off work and ordered on prime on a specific day and missed my opportunity to study. Only gave one star because it wouldn’t let me give no stars. See all reviews. I also purchased the Social Work Examination Services book and it is much more in-depth and the example questions are more similar to the actual test. Save your money and don't buy this book.
